Please note:
Vegetable boxes
The box scheme runs throughout the
year and for the majority of that time (minimum 8 months) the box's will be made up
of 100% home grown Perry Court Bio-Dynamic vegetables, salads and herbs.
There may be a few months of the
year when supplies of home grown produce have run out or are
very low, (vegetables are largely a seasonal product). From
several years experience we have found that customers do not
like their box's to contain the same few basic veggies every
week, and we therefore supplement the box contents through these
times with bought in produce.
Fruit boxes
The
fruit boxes are made up of local fruit when available, but like all
other box schemes supplying fruit some has to be imported. There is a
huge shortage of UK organic fruit and virtually no Bio-Dynamic. We are
planting a mixture of soft fruit ourselves this year to further
minimise reliance on bought in fruit.
Our reason for supplying
this type of box is that if people want to eat organic fruit, then most
would prefer to buy it from somewhere other then a supermarket.
Additions
When selecting fruit and vegetables to supplement the boxes we choose
firstly local, then Bio-Dynamic, then UK organic and lastly from
abroad if nothing else is available. Through improving our crop
storage and increasing our poly tunnel area we are continually
trying to minimise this.
